TRAINING COMPANY OFFERING HIPAA TRAINING TO HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS OVER THE INTERNET
Spring, Texas, September 15, 2003 --- The rules enforcing the privacy of patient records has the health care industry scrambling. These rules are the first to be put in place as a result of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Health care providers are held accountable to the Department of Health and Human Services for the actions of their employees.
G & D International announced today that two of their HIPAA training courses are now being offered over the World Wide Web to healthcare professionals. There is a course to inform consumers of their rights under the recently enacted Privacy Rule and a more comprehensive course to train health care professionals.
"The requirements of the Privacy Rule have the ability to disrupt the daily routine of health care providers. It is imperative that all employees be aware of what they may be doing to violate the privacy of a patient's health information," said Galynn Ferris, General Manager. "The penalties for violation of this rule, up to $250,000 and ten years of imprisonment, could create a financial crisis in a small clinic or other small health related business."
"Our purpose is to create effective training programs for small health care companies. We believe our clients are very busy and need to be able to take this training on a schedule that is convenient for them."
Mr. Ferris states that these courses are designed to be delivered over dialup internet connections. "This makes our courses especially valuable to rural clinics. This is an affordable training solution for these clinics because there will be no travel costs and minimal absence from work."
The course titled Privacy Compliance takes about three hours to complete. The student can exit the course at any time and the software will remember where they were so they can return to the course at the next opportunity. This course will cover all the topics that are related to preserving the privacy of patient records including patient protections, authorization, and reporting of disclosures; use of patient data in research and marketing; and confidential communications with patients, business associates, and employers. Courses on HIPAA transaction compliance and OSHA compliance will be added before the end of the year.
These courses may be accessed at www.hipaatrng.com.
